My deepest sympathy to all the families of our fallen heroes.
My heart goes out to those from Ft. Campbell, as I spend a great deal of time there visiting my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law, who is stationed there.
I was there at FT. Campbell on 9/11. The cartoons were on..then we got a call to turn on the news.
We sat in horror and shock as we watched everything happen before our eyes.
I remember it was very hot and almost all the gates into the post were closed.The men and women had a long wait to get onto post to begin their duties but the good people of Oakgrove,Kentucky and Clarksville,Tenessee came out in force and set up tables along Ft. Campbell Blvd. to serve drinks and food to the soldiers. All the businesses along the way contributed. It was wonderful.
But, as I write this, my heart is still heavy with sadness because of the men and women who have given their lives willingly in service to our country.
Let us never forget..let us always hold them up and name them as the heroes that they are.

I am the cousin of Kirk Allen Straseskie who died monday,may 19,2003 trying to save four other Marines that were in a helicopter crash about 60 miles from Bagdad.

Kirk drowned trying to swim out and dive down to save the men in the downed helicopter. He was the youngest son of John Straseskie Sr. from Beaver Dam,Wisconsin.

My 4 year old daughter, Anabelle, who also met him a few times, was also very fond of him. He once gave her a small stuffed, multi colored cow which she named "Fruity". Since the tragedy she has placed Fruity on a shelf and plans to keep it as her remider of him. Our Son, Dominik, currently serves with the 3ACR in Iraq.  Words cannot express our heartfelt condolences to those families that have lost precious loved ones.  Memories are all one has in times like these and it is those memories that keep our loved ones alive and vital in our hearts.  We cry with you and pray constantly for the safe return of all our service men and women.  God Bless Them All and keep them in His loving hands.

I am only 19 yrs old, Im happy that our country is standing for something as Important as freedom for everyone. I was for the war..and I have a nephew who is serving as of now over in Iraq..I pray for him every day..were only a couple of years apart in age and he is Important to us all. I didnt stop and think to pray for the people I went to school with..the ones serving over In Iraq as well. I was devestated when I heard that Josh Neusche had passed away. I will forever remember the funny times...and his infectious grin....Rest well Josh (aka Neusch Dog) for we will always remember you....as for the rest serving our country...you have my prayers and my thanks everyday. Stand strong and proud....for ALL of you are the reason we still stand as a free country....

This message is for all who have lost a loved one or friend in service for their country, but most of all in memory of a good friend of ours, David Loyd. Our hearts go out to you, Pam and Lyman and David, Jr. in your recent loss. David Loyd was a great husband, father, friend, and soldier. He died in Iraq on August 5th and died doing what he loved -serving his country. He was a member of the National Guard and served in Desert Storm as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom. For those who knew and loved him, David's memory will live on for the great human being he was. You will be missed, David!!!
